Research Network

Aim

The Atrial Fibrillation NETwork (AFNET) is an interdisciplinary research network comprising scientists and physicians from hospitals and practices dedicated to improving the management of atrial fibrillation through coordinated research in Germany, Europe and beyond. Its main objective is to conduct high quality investigator-initiated clinical trials and registries on a national and international level.

Research focus

The studies conducted by AFNET analyse and evaluate therapies for patients with arrhythmias. This includes pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments. Another focus is the development of  screening strategies for early detection of atrial fibrillation in order to prevent strokes and other serious complications.

Mobile Health (mHealth) with apps on smartphones and smartwatches becomes increasingly more important for the diagnosis of arrhythmias as they ae widely accessible and easy to handle. AFNET employs mHealth applications in particular in its screening projects to reach a large number of participants are addressed.

Besides its current research focus on atrial fibrillation, AFNET is opening up its studies to other cardiac diseases.
